Bleeding Heart
This beautiful plant is a temperate woodland North American native. The subtle shades of red, white, and pink blooms bring life to spring when they bloom. The eastern bleeding heart produces sprays of small pink flowers from April to September in the Allegheny Mountain region of eastern North America. The Pacific, or western, bleeding heart (D. formosa) is found in mountain woods from California to British Columbia. Be wary, though, as beautiful as they are, they are poisonous if eaten.
